Help a child

Published by mandasparkle under Life, Opinion Edit This

There are many ways you can help children in poor countries. The tough part is choosing how or which way you want to help them out. Here are several suggestions on how you can contribute and make a difference in the life of a child in a poor country.

Buy an XO laptop for children in poor countries. You can give the gift of education and empower them with knowledge and the ability to educate themselves to help themselves. If you want more information on how to donate an XO laptop go to this website:

http://laptop.org/en/participate/give-one-get-one.shtml

Give money for women’s sanitary products in Zimbabwe or another disadvantaged country where women do not have access to feminine products. You can buy products from the campaign on their web site and learn other ways in which you can help provide these products to women in need. The campaign is called Dignity! Period. This has direct effect on a woman or teenage girl.

Here’s the link: http://www.actsa.org/page-1022-Dignity%21%20Period..html

Sponsor a child through a reputable non-profit organization. You could use Christian’s Children’s Fund, which has been around for a very long time and is very well known. Their commercials are always the tear-jerkers showing children starving, living in filthy huts and walking miles to get fresh water. To sponsor a child is really not that expensive. For 80 cents a day you can sponsor a child and help give them a chance to escape poverty by providing them with some basic needs. You can provide them with education, health care and nutritious food. They’ll even send you a picture of the child you sponsor as well as their location and story. You don’t have to necessarily sponsor a child. You can make a one time or ongoing donations to the children’s fund. You can also purchase “gifts of love” which range from things like seeds and tools for a vegetable farm in Mexico to a solar lantern for a child in India.

It is a scary thought to think that a 20 children die daily because of simple illnesses that most think are eradicated. People in the industrialized world no longer die from these simple illnesses. If these children had access to the proper immunizations or medication they would not die. You can help provide low cost medications and basic supplies to children in need. An organization known as Child First Meds helps by providing low cost medications to children in poor countries. You can help by making an ongoing monthly donation, a one time donation or an annual donation. For more information on how you can help give medicine for the better health of children go to their site at: http://www.childfirstmeds.org/donate.html

Hunger is another killer that kills too many children every year. Feed the children is a good organization to get involved with to help feed children around the world. You can help them out in several different ways. You can make a cash donation, you can donate a car, and you can sponsor a child, sponsor through your church or work, go on a mission or start a special project fundraiser. To see what you can do to help go to: http://www.feedthechildren.org/site/PageServer?pagename=dotorg_homepage&s_Affiliate

There are so many different ways you can help children in need in poor countries. Just type in any search engine the phrase “help children in poor countries” and you’ll find a whole array of different options that you can pick from.

How to build self esteem

Published by mandasparkle under Life, Opinion Edit This

These tips should help anyone who is struggling to maintain a healthy attitude of self love and good self esteem. Remember to always love yourself and love others as you love yourself. Try not to be so harsh or judgmental on yourself or others.Adopt a new, more positive attitude. Accept yourself for who you are and love yourself for who you are. Tell yourself “I love you” in the mirror everyday and smile. Spend some time on yourself and your special attributes. Everyone is good at something or enjoys something. What do you like? Do you like art, music, history, making things, movies? Whatever it is you like, begin doing it, even if it’s just a hobby for an hour or two a week. It will make you feel better about yourself and it will help build up your self esteem to know that you are doing something that you enjoy.

Surround yourself with other people who lift you up and are positive. Talk to and hang out with friends and family. Make new friends and find people who love you and genuinely care about you and accept you for who you are and only want the best for you. Choose your friends carefully. Be aware of people who can drag you down or make you feel bad about yourself.

Get to know yourself. What are your values, your beliefs, your morals, your wants, your needs and your taste? The better you know yourself, the easier it will be to love yourself.

Stop trying to be perfect. Perfectionism is a double edged sword. You cannot be perfect, you can only be the best you, you can be. No one in this world is perfect, so don’t berate yourself or tear yourself down for making a mistake or not being perfect. Also, stop comparing yourself to others. You will never be them and they will never be you. Others are not perfect and although it may seem to you that they are, if you would really get to know them and see their life as it truly is, you would realize that not one single person on the face of the planet isn’t struggling constantly or hasn’t been through some struggles in life.

Be kind to others and do nice things for other people. This will help to build your self esteem. This is what can truly make people happy. You will realize that by you making other people happy, you yourself will become happy or happier with your life and yourself. There is no better thing in the world you can do than be good and do good for others.

Always remember that you are a worthy person. You are worthy of love and don’t let no one, including yourself, tell you otherwise, because it is a lie. Do not devalue yourself or your life; you matter, even if you or others think otherwise. Know that you are loved unconditionally by not only other people, but by God or some “higher power”. Just knowing that someone out there cares is enough to help boost your self esteem. Learn over time how to love yourself and forgive yourself for beating yourself up. Never, ever, ever give up.

One World Government? One World Religion?

Published by mandasparkle under Life, Opinion Edit This

Are we headed towards a one world government and/or one world religion? Could the United Nations end up controlling the world? These are all very interesting questions that we all must take into consideration and give some thought. There is a thing that is talked about in our present day called “new world order”.

This New World Orderis not some prophetically speculative or futuristic fairy tale, but a real world reality. It is not some “wacko conspiracy theory” advanced by the fringe of society like the powers that be would have us believe. Anybody that will end their soma induced “holiday” will see the evidence all around them.

Quigley summarized the insider’s grand plan: “Their aim is nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. The system was to be controlled in a feudalistic fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent private meetings and conferences.”

If there is one group of people or several groups of people conspiring to bring about this “New World Order” and control the world basically, how is that going to effect the world? How will things change? Could they force a one world government where they run the world and have all control? Could they create and enforce the practice of only one world religion? If they control all the money and resources, they would seemingly have all the power, unless otherwise stopped by the citizens of the countries. Not to mention that the world already seems to be headed in the direction of possibly having one currency and possibly a one world government in our future. This is a very scary, but real possibility. This isn’t science fiction and isn’t just some conspiracy theory that will never happen. This is something serious that I think all people need to investigate and dig deeper to figure out if this is where our world is headed.

Moral Relativism

Published by mandasparkle under Life, Opinion Edit This

Moral relativism is the philosophical theory that morality is relative and that different moral truths hold for different people. It comes in two forms: ethical subjectivism and cultural relativism.Ethical subjectivism holds that morality is relative to individuals; cultural relativism holds that it is relative to culture. Both deny the existence of moral absolutes, of objective moral truths that hold for all people in all places at all times.

According to moral relativism, it makes no sense to ask the abstract question whether a given act is good or bad. According to moral relativism, there is no goodness or badness in the abstract; there is only goodness or badness within a specified context. An act may thus be good for one person but bad for another, or good in one cultural setting but bad in another, but cannot be either good or bad full stop. Some see moral relativism as an obvious truth, as undeniable; others see it as threatening the moral foundation on which society is founded.

This philosophy or belief is that nothing really truly matters, that everything is relative and that morals are only valid in situations. This just seems like nonsense to me though. Morals are valid in everyday life, in every context and every situation. Without morals our society would fall apart. Without morals our lives would fall apart, we could not experience happiness or joy. Perhaps this is what is happening to society. We are rotting from the inside out because of this moral relativism that many people are know adopting as a truth. Our entire planet, every culture, every society is becoming more relativized. Ideas have consequences. Our ideas, our motives, our actions all have consequences on ourselves and on everybody else on the planet. Moral laws are there and exist for a reason. So many people seem to have forgotten that now.

Moral laws exist to maximize our happiness or the possibility of happiness. Why do people think they can just run around and do whatever they wish and think that will make them happy? In the end, they finally realize that yeah maybe they lived exactly as they wished and did whatever they wanted, but at what expense, the expense of their own life’s happiness and even the happiness of others? No one wants to be a good moral person anymore. Why are so many people raging a battle on morals? They don’t realize the implications of a society of little to no morals that thinks its okay to do whatever they please, even if it hurts themselves or others. This is a very selfish attitude, but it is the direction we are currently on.Morality is partly, but not wholly, determined by situations. This theory makes it sound like morality is only determined in certain situations. No one can deny that they experience a moral tug or a moral obligation to themselves and others. Everyone has a conscience, even if it’s been beaten down or hidden in submission. People feel the innate need to be good to others and themselves. We protest and make a fuss when others treat us immorally and so then we know for certain their actions, their treatment, was wrong towards us and that we should not act that way towards others. We are designed to experience this and feel this moral pull and experience joy. Joy and happiness cannot be truly achieved unless you have morals and try your hardest to live by them.

Finally, all societies that lasted are moral societies. Morals and laws are the foundation of any society that has made it. Relativist societies have never produced a good society, only a bad one. Societies and people need morals to last and have a good, happy existence. Anything else is an effort in futility.

This brings me to my question of where is our society in America going? We seem to be adopting the thought process of a morally relative society. If this is true, then will our society, our culture be able to last? This is doubtful as seeing that no other relative society has before. Our society cannot last but so long with its current morally relative thought. Maybe things will change, hopefully for the sake of us all.

How to Start Praying

Published by mandasparkle under Uncategorized Edit This

For people who do not know or understand the concept of praying it may be something you feel uncomfortable asking about or asking how to go about talking spiritually to God and praying. There is no wrong way to pray, so don’t be afraid, just know that it is good that you are keeping the lines of communication and dialogue open between yourself and God. Here are some tips on how to get started praying and having a better prayer life. Prayer is an important part of Christian or any religious life and can help you grow spiritually in your life while becoming closer to God.

Make it a daily routine. Set aside a time and place every day for prayer. Decide if you wish to pray before all meals as well. You may want to pray first thing in the morning when you wake up, before all meals and/or at bedtime. It is very important to establish a set time and adhere to it everyday to continue your prayer life.

Before praying try to calm yourself down or relax. Try to go to a quiet place where you can find some silence, even if it’s just for 30 seconds or so, this way you can focus and connect with God. You can increase the amount of time you are silent the longer you have been praying and that way you can wait and truly connect with God better.

Try several ways of praying. You may be more comfortable praying one way or another, but it is always good to try to figure out what works best for you in prayer. You can pray like you are having a conversation with God, talking to him in a normal everyday manner, like you would talk to a friend. You can pray the Bible, meaning you take a few minutes to read something in the Bible and then pray and direct your attention to God. When you do this try to focus on the passage that you read and then you may be able to get better understanding of the passage during your prayers to God. Ask God what he has to say to you in your life and what a certain passage may mean or be saying to you about God and your life. You can also write out your prayers. Sometimes by simply writing out our feelings and what we may be going through can help us give it over to God. Keeping a prayer journal is a great way to let God know your thoughts and feelings and that you are giving it over to him. You can also pray the Lord’s Prayer which can be found here: http://www.rwf2000.com/2000/prayer.htm

You can also pray for other people and this is very important to God that you care about others and pray for them and their lives too. If your church has a bulletin with prayer requests you could use this to ask God to watch over and take care of these people or you could write down the people’s names you wish to pray for or speak them in your mind or out loud during prayer to God, asking for God’s grace and comfort for these people. Remember how God has helped you and always thank him in your prayers for everything he has given you and everything he has done for the world.

How to survive a depression

Published by mandasparkle under Life, Opinion Edit This

The mere thought of another depression is very scary, but very real. We could be facing another great depression and it is important for all of us to seriously take that into consideration in our daily lives.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Guns and ammunition
  • Multi purpose knives
  • Bottled water/water purification tablets
  • Food (stocked up in pantry and/or garden/livestock)
  • Shelter (house, mobile home, apartment, tent, car or any other means)
  • Blankets
  • First-aid kit
  • Sewing kit
  • Knowledge and willingness to work together to survive
  • Spirit and hope

Start making a plan now. Save as much money as you can right now. Pay down as many bills as possible. Stop going out to eat. Take your lunch to work instead of buying lunch. Look at everything in your budget, everything you spend money on. Is there anything that you can cut out or trim back on? Can you find a better insurance rate? Do you really need cable television? Do you need a subscription to a magazine or other service? Try to trim as much as you possibly can.

Stock up on food staples. For an article/list of staples for a stocked pantry go here: http://factoidz.com/food-drink-recipes/staples-for-a-stocked-pantry/ Stockpile food and goods. Ration food. Drink more water and less soda/coffee/tea/Kool-Aid. Make a meal plan. If you are very busy take one day that you are off and cook enough food to last a week and freeze it. Check foods expiration dates and make sure to use them before going bad to prevent waste. Save all leftovers and eat them either for lunch or dinner the next day. This doesn’t mean you have to eat the same exact meal, you could possibly add a different ingredient to it to make it a little bit different.  Be ready to reuse as much as you can and stretch out resources to the limit. Learn how you can make do and get by with less. Learn from the past depression and educate yourself now, that way in case something does happen, like a total economic collapse or a severe depression you can be prepared ahead of time. Read books and articles on the internet to help inform yourself of all the knowledge available to you. You will want to learn how to help yourself be as self sufficient as possible. However, it is also a good idea to learn where local help may be located too. Where is your local food bank/soup kitchen/homeless shelter or outreach center that helps people in crisis? These places may possibly be able to help people in the event of a depression, but cannot be completely relied upon because in the event of a depression everyone will need help.  Purchase a gun and all purpose knives for hunting and protection. Invest in water purification bottles or tablets to purify drinking water. Keep a stock of bottled water on hand. Purchase or prepare a first aid kit/survival kit/sewing kit. If you can, grow and raise your own food. Plant a garden; buy some livestock like chickens, rabbits, goats, pigs or cattle if you have a lot of land. Even if you have little land you can purchase chickens, rabbits and goats pretty cheaply and they will come in handy for extra food in hard times. Not to mention growing anything will also help to provide a steady source of food.  Learn how to barter and trade for items you will need or want. Think about the bare necessities. You will need blankets to stay warm, water and food, shelter, soap to stay clean, good shoes or boots, ammunition for guns. Think about all purpose types of things like duct tape, sheets, basic cooking and storage utensils and anything that can be multi-purpose. If there is a depression, money may not be any good anymore, so people will have to barter and trade for things they need or want.  In the event of a depression, just as we have seen recently in the current recession, people must come together for the good and survival of all. Make sure and reinforce your commitment to knowing those around you, keeping your family close and working together to make it through. Survival will depend on all these skills and the family unit working together.

What would happen if you fell into a black hole?

Published by mandasparkle under Uncategorized Edit This

What would happen if you fell into a black hole? Well, put simply you would die after being sucked into a black hole. Your body would be shredded into the smallest possible pieces. It would definitely be a pretty gruesome experience.

What is a black hole? Well, a black hole is a place in space where the force of gravity is so powerful that you would need to be traveling faster than the speed of light to escape its pull. Since nothing is known to travel faster than the speed of light, nothing that falls into a black hole can ever escape. The border at which the gravity becomes strong enough to create the phenomenon is known as the “event horizon”. The event horizon marks the outer boundary of the black hole. The closer you get to the center of the black hole, the stronger the pull of gravity.

If you were caught by the pull of a black hole, you would be sent into free fall toward its center. The pulling force would increase as you moved toward the center, creating what’s called a “tidal force” on your body. Your body would be stretched until it snapped apart, first at its weakest point and then disintegrating rapidly from there as the tidal force became stronger than the chemical bonds holding your body together. You’d be reduced to a bunch of disconnected atoms. Those atoms would then be stretched into a line. The more matter and people that a black hole took in, the bigger it would get. As the black hole would increase in size that would affect its gravitational force and the force inside the hole would become less dramatic the larger it became.

Scientists Can See Your Dreams

Published by mandasparkle under Life Edit This

Scientists in
Japan have developed software that can map brain activity to an image. Chief researcher Yukiyaso Kamitani stated that “by applying this technology, it may become possible to record and replay subjective images that people perceive like dreams.” The software focuses on the image recognition procedures in the retina of the human eye. The eye’s retina is able to recognize an image which is then converted into electrical signals that are sent to the brain.

The device that has been created allows the processing and imaging of thoughts and dreams as experienced in the brain to appear on a computer screen. According to a scientific study conducted by the Telegraph dreams are shaped by events of the past week.

Imagine the possibilities with this type of software and essentially mind reading? This could mean that you could record your dreams and play the images from them back to be able to fully remember the dream. You could use this device to try to figure out why you had the dream in the first place. This could possibly get ugly though, because that means they can pretty much read your mind or at least this is the beginning of technology that can do so in some form. It seems to be the very beginning of technology that I’m sure will most likely continue to grow and progress. What will or could be next?

A software program or device that not only can read simple images but also put thoughts together intelligently and communicate another’s thoughts to you? It’s kind of a scary concept to think about what the possible outcome of such software could be. Nowadays we have technology in every part of our lives, so much so, that the only private place we have anymore is our mind. If the privacy of the mind is taken, what kind of world would it be that we would live in?

Could this technology be a threat to people or society, a threat to privacy, and a threat to the individual? Could thoughts or images possibly be planted into one’s brain then? Maybe this technology is still far off from being completely developed and used in such a manner, but it still makes you think and question the possibilities of the future. Could there be thought police? What about bad dreams or sexual dreams? Could they possibly censor and control our thoughts and our dreams? Talk about being programmed! This technology could make it possible. People’s lives and thoughts could be programmed to follow, without any individual desire to do anything else.

Looking for that needle in a haystack

Published by mandasparkle under Life, Writing Edit This

Looking for an online or work from home editing or writing position that provides a full time income can sometimes feel like looking for a needle in a haystack. It can become very, very frustrating. I know that even before I graduated from college I was looking for an opportunity that would allow me to telecommute and write or edit. I’ve searched endlessly it seems. I’ve found many opportunities, but none that have panned out as I had hoped. Many are just on a freelance basis, providing little to no income potential. I have decided to begin writing short stories and/or novels in hopes of possibly getting my work published, as well as continuing to explore every online opportunity I can find. Most opportunities have been either on a part time basis or a one time deal. How incredible it would be to find a stable, well paying writing or editing job from home? I know it is possible and I know that if I keep up my search and do not give up, my dream will come true. I am currently working full time as an editor in a contracted position. I am fairly certain my contract will be extended, but I do not have the same benefits of an employee. I also freelance as often as I can find time too, but this barely seems to even supplement my income. If anybody out there knows of a legitimate online opportunity that is currently available and hiring, please let me know. I sure would appreciate it! I look over the many sites that offer freelance opportunities or work from home opportunities and just haven’t been able to find anything that fits the way I want it to just yet.
