Book Review of How God Makes Babies By: Jim Burns

Book Review of How God Makes Babies By: Jim Burns

Amanda Bradbury

I loved this book as well, it seems like the author has a whole series starting with young children going all they way through teenage years. This book is also illustrated beautifully and the pictures are awesome. The book offers the Christian perspective and is a great tool for teaching children about sex and babies. I think this is an easy way for parents of children to openly and honestly talk about sex, babies and their bodies. Sometimes I think it is never too early to start talking to a child about these very important things that may affect the rest of their lives. I would recommend this book to anyone with children or as a gift to a family member or friend with young children.

Book Review of God Made Your Body By: Jim Burns

Book Review of God Made Your Body By: Jim Burns

Amanda Bradbury

I loved this book and the whole series! This seems like an easy way to talk to children about their body and about sex and babies. It is short and to the point, it has excellent and clear pictures for children to look at. The book has the Christian perspective and is great for anyone wanting to teach their children about God and their bodies. The book emphasizes God and makes several good points along with relating the information to children in a simple and direct manner. I do not have children yet, but I am definitely hanging onto this book and probably going to get the rest of his series because it can help me talk to my child one day when I have one. I would recommend this book to anyone with children or as a gift to a family member or friend with young children.

Book Review of Fast & Frugal Cookbook By: Dawn Hall

Published by mandasparkle under Books, Life, Opinion Edit This

Book Review of Fast & Frugal Cookbook By: Dawn Hall

Amanda Bradbury

The fast and frugal cookbook lives up to its name. It does have many recipes that are fairly fast and fairly frugal; however I wasn’t as impressed as I thought I would be with the recipes and the ingredients. Some of the ingredients I’ve never even seen on shelves or heard of before and I’m not sure that they would be available to people all over the United States. I had no idea that Hormel brand has canned roast beef, I never recall seeing it in the store in my area and I felt that it may not be available to me or people in my region. I also felt that there were a lot of recipes that called for this particular item. Other than that I was pleased with the recipes, the nice pictures showing the dishes and the fact that many of the recipes were fast and frugal. Many of the recipes seemed like original ideas and recipes I had never seen before or something with a new twist. I would recommend this book to anyone trying to cook frugally and live a more frugal lifestyle. This is a good book to give as a gift to anyone who likes to cook or is frugal.

Book Review of “Let God Talk to You” By: Becky Tirabassi

Published by mandasparkle under Uncategorized Edit This

Becky’s idea in this book of spending an hour with God everyday is a great suggestion and something that I am striving towards. The overall message is one that is very important and needed in many people’s lives. Also, the fact that other people have heard God talk to them through His scripture, His Word, is something that has happened to me as well. I completely connected with this book because I’ve had experiences before where I was thinking about something or had something to ask and immediately found it in my bible when I opened it up. God does talk to us everyday, it’s whether we listen to him or not as to if we really hear him. Making time each day is difficult, but I would like to be able to start doing it on a regular basis. This book was inspiring and uplifting. I would recommend this book be given as a present to anyone who believes in God. I am a Bethany House Publishers book reviewer. Review of “The Jesus Book” By Stephen Elkins

“The Jesus Book” by Stephen Elkins was illustrated very beautifully and was simple to read and understand for a small child. I was delighted to find that the book included a CD with a ton of songs for young children to listen to and sing along with. This is a very comprehensive book for children to learn who Jesus was and what He has to offer us. The pictures are very colorful and the book is very informative. This book would make a great gift for a child or the parent of a small child. This is the type of book a child will keep and cherish forever. My husband was also curious about what the book said and took a look at the book, he offered the opinion that the book should’ve talked a little more specifically about when Jesus was born to make it a little clearer for young children to understand, other than that the book did an amazing job of presenting the information in a clear and understandable way. I would recommend this book to friends, family and anyone with children. Book Review of Max Lucado’s “Fearless”

Book Review of Max Lucado’s “Fearless”

By: Amanda Bradbury

From the author Max Lucado is his new book “Fearless”, which is an amazing book and one that is so timely and needed right now. This book talks about fears that everyone has in life and this existence and how to deal with those fears by giving them to God and trusting God. The book is filled with biblical stories and references to highlight fear and why we should not fear. The message of the book is that people who follow God should fear not. “Though the world may collapse, the work of Christ will endure”, seems to be the main message overall to all people, Christians or not. The book also offers encouragement that you shouldn’t be afraid, you shouldn’t worry; you shouldn’t fret because it is all in God’s hand and part of his divine plan. This was a great book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading and learning from. I would recommend it to all my friends, family and Christians and non-Christians alike. After reading this book, I think I want to read more of Max Lucado’s writing. He puts stories together very nicely and has a way of always expressing God’s word to intertwine with the story. The author and the book made me stop and think, question my thoughts, my fears and my relationship with God. Max successfully conveyed Biblical truths in his book and the information was clear and easy to understand. The book was able to hold my attention and I didn’t want to stop reading it once I became engaged with it. I am a book review blogger for Thomas Nelson Publishers. Book Review of “Offworld” by Robin Parrish

Published by mandasparkle under Books, Opinion Edit This

Offworld by Robin Parrish is a science fiction story that wraps together Mars, Earth, humanity and many other factors. The story is full of surprises and a couple of twists that you don’t see coming. The book illustrates many common human fears and emotions. I’m not sure there was supposed to be one direct message to get across in the book, however they’re were a few things I did take away from the book and it was a good adventure story. The story was full of fighting, surviving and struggle throughout an incredible ordeal that not many people could imagine. The book made me think about a few things, most definitely the future and mankind being on Earth. The story was not drawn out too much and it was able to hold my attention and kept me wanting to read and learn more. It’s not until closer to the end of the book when you finally realize what exactly is going on in the story. To anyone who enjoys science fiction or adventure tales I would recommend this book. It’s a good story of life, love and the human spirit. I am a book reviewer for Bethany House Publishers. To become a book reviewer for Bethany House please go to: Bethany House

Book Review of Read and Share Toddler Bible By: Gwen Ellis & Steve Smallman

Published by mandasparkle under Books, Life, Opinion Edit This

This book is a read and share version of the Bible for toddlers. The book includes 40 short bible stories with beautiful and colorful illustrations of bible characters and animals. The book also includes a DVD that also has short stories on it to hold the attention of toddlers. The DVD is an hour long. The book and DVD has stories from both the old and New Testament of the bible. I thought this was a very cute little book and would make the perfect gift for someone who has a child of toddler age or for any nursery school teacher at a church. The book explains the stories in simple and easy terms to relate to small children and I liked how it also included a recommended activity at the end of each story to do with your child to help them learn from the story further. I liked that the book included so many different stories from the bible for children to hear and that you could make learning about them fun with the book and DVD. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants their children to learn about God and the stories of the bible, as well as any Sunday school teacher who is sharing the word of God with children. This book is very inexpensive and is definitely worth every penny. I would also highly recommend it as the perfect gift for a toddler aged child. Book Review of Rick & Bubba’s Guide to the Almost Nearly Perfect Marriage

Published by mandasparkle under Books, Opinion Edit This

Rick & Bubba’s book is about marriage and the fact that you will not have a perfect marriage, but that’s okay, because no one does, because no one is perfect. This book is hilarious and informative at the same time. Rick and Bubba offer a lot of advice if you are in a relationship or already married and they also offer a lot of insight into their own marriages. They talk about a lot of funny experiences and poke fun at themselves and their wives, but in a loving way. The overall message of the book is that marriage is not meant to be perfect and Rick and Bubba want to inform you to be realistic when it comes to marriage, because many people enter into marriage thinking one thing and find out it’s something completely different when they get there. The main point of their book is that they want to help people because so many marriages have ended in divorce; they want to help tell you how to make yours work. This book was very interesting to me because I just recently got married and it helped to reinforce the fact that I am not perfect and my partner is not perfect and we will never have a perfect relationship. But we can have an almost nearly perfect marriage as long as we don’t give up and keep working on our relationship with each other. The information in the book was presented in a comedic manner, but was still informative and fun to read. I would recommend this to newly married couples or anyone in a long term relationship. Local Richmond, VA Grocery Store Ukrop’s Potentially Selling to Harris Teeter?

Published by mandasparkle under Life, Opinion Edit This

Well, there have been rumors the past few years of a sale of the locally owned Ukrop’s grocery store and it seems that rumors have started again. According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch it was announced that Ukrop’s may be looking for potential buyers according to statements made in “Food World” Magazine. It remains just a rumor right now, so we’ll see if it progresses or if it’s just another rumor. I for one would definitely miss Ukrop’s. There are some who bash and hate on Ukrop’s, but yet they are a great company, who gives back to the community. Everyone thinks they’re so overpriced, but they are not, they are very competitive and even cheaper on some things than their competitors. They employ good, decent, friendly people, willing to help you out. They have the best customer service out of any store. I will truly miss them if they do sell. I hope this is only another rumor and not true. Although, it wouldn’t hurt to have a Harris Teeter store in Richmond, more competition is always good. But, I don’t want another store to have to close down so that Harris Teeter can come in. I’ve never been in a Harris Teeter, I hear it’s similiar to Ukrop’s style, fresh food and all.

I for one am not completely loyal to any store, I don’t just shop at one store. I shop around to get the best deals. I shop at every and any store that can give me the best price and the best value. I live close to lots of stores, so this is very easy for me to do. I am very fortunate that I live close to all these stores, so I have many choices:

Kroger
Ukrop’s
Food Lion
Wal-Mart
Target
CVS
Walgreen’s
Rite-Aid
Dollar Tree
Dollar General
Family Dollar
